Window as analogy for open-mindedness

The Window

In traditional fine art lithography, the image is built up by layering one colour over the next. Here, that process is replicated digitally by montaging scans of small paintings on board prepared roughly with plaster. The scans were overlaid one on the other and combined with other photographs to create the final image. The title, The Window, refers to any of the window-like openings in the composition and figuratively encourages the viewer to look beyond the surface for an opening, a release valve, another way, in any situation.

For further reading, The Professional Art Dealers Association of Canada has a pamphlet, Prints: Guidelines & Definitions, with a good overview of traditional and more recent methods for making an original print.
