Water Garden Landscape of Emotion

Water Garden

"Works are lovely - dream-like ..." Plaskett Gallery Guestbook

When creating Water Garden I was aware that my intent to interpret the effects of light on water, glinting in the sunlight, was similar to the French Impressionists' concern with capturing light quality. My intention here was to evoke the sense of being in a floral garden, fragrant and light-filled, and to catch the flickering quality of sunlight, especially its reflections on water. Whereas the Impressionists worked with paint, dabbing the colours onto the surface to let the viewer's eye merge them into a cohesive whole, I work with pixels, capturing colour photographically and merging the pixels to create a montage full of suggested reflection. The Encarta Online Encyclopaedia has a good survey article about Impressionism.
