Vancouver Winter games 2010

Limited edition print by Burnaby artist Ellen Scobie
Presented to Icelandic Olympic Athletes

The Lower Mainland's Icelandic community was thrilled to welcome four young athletes from Iceland competing in alpine ski events. At a reception honouring the athletes on February 21, each was presented with a limited edition print by Burnaby artist Ellen Scobie, herself of Icelandic Canadian heritage.

Icelandic Olympic Athletes presented with artwork by Ellen Scobie

Icelandic Olympic athletes Árni Þorvaldsson and Björgvin Björgvinsson, are presented with artwork by Ellen Scobie entitled "Inukshuk at the Beach".

To celebrate Vancouver's role as Host City to the 2010 Winter Games, Ellen created a limited edition print, "Inukshuk at the Beach". Memorably capturing some of Vancouver's favourite views, the artwork's composition features the Inukshuk, an iconic stone sculpture used for the inspiration for the 2010 Olympics logo, imaginatively montaged on the beach at Vancouver's Spanish Banks with the snow-topped North Shore mountains in the background. Canamade Market at W2 Storyeum in Vancouver

The print was also for sale at Canamade, a "made in Canada" marketplace for original art and gifts, where it received enthusiastic reviews from the many worldwide visitors in town for the Olympic festivities.

Held from February 12-28 in Gastown's W2 Storyeum, Ellen participated at Canamade with her west coast landscapes and mixed media art and had a great time meeting people from all over the world, some of whom she tracked on a Google map.

Special Edition Print Contest

Hundreds of entries were also received for a draw Ellen held for a large-sized Special Edition of the "Inukshuk at the Beach" limited edition print. Beautifully printed on 20 x 17.5 inch watercolour paper, the artwork is titled and signed by the artist and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. The lucky winner was Sheila TeHennepe of Vancouver.
